The beautiful thing about the halfway point is that it's not an ending, but an invitation to begin again, wiser than before.
We’ve officially reached the midpoint of 2025. If you’re anything like me, you’re wondering how the first six months managed to fly by so quickly. Maybe you started the year with a list of goals, intentions, or even just a vague sense of hope for what this year could bring. Maybe some of those things have happened—and maybe some haven’t.
Here’s the good news: the calendar is giving us a natural pause. The end of June and the start of July is more than just a page flip; it’s a built-in opportunity to reset, refocus, and reimagine what the rest of the year could look like.
Why a Midyear Reset Matters
We tend to put a lot of pressure on January 1st, but the truth is, change doesn’t care about the calendar. The halfway point is a powerful moment to check in with yourself—without the noise and hype of New Year’s resolutions. It’s a quieter, more honest kind of reflection.
The beauty of a midyear reset is that it’s less about grand declarations and more about honest self-assessment. By now, you’ve lived through enough of the year to know what’s working and what’s not. You’ve had wins, setbacks, and probably a few surprises. This is your chance to pause and ask: Am I moving in the direction I want? Am I spending my time and energy on things that matter to me?
This isn’t about guilt or regret. It’s about giving yourself permission to change course, to let go of what’s not serving you, and to double down on what is. The world doesn’t stop for us to catch up, but we can always choose to slow down, reflect, and reset. The halfway mark is a gentle nudge to do just that.
How to Reset for the Second Half of 2025
Here’s a simple framework I’m using—and you can, too:
1. Reflect (without judgment):
Take stock of the past six months. What are you proud of? What surprised you? Where did you struggle? Write it down, or just take a quiet walk and let your mind wander. The goal isn’t to criticize yourself, but to notice.
Reflection is the foundation of any meaningful reset. It’s easy to gloss over the past, but taking time to look back—honestly and without judgment—can reveal patterns, strengths, and opportunities for growth. Maybe you accomplished more than you realized. Maybe you faced challenges you didn’t expect. Maybe you simply kept going, even when things got tough. That counts, too.
Try journaling about your experiences, or talk them through with a friend. What moments stand out? What did you learn about yourself? What would you do differently if you had the chance? This isn’t about dwelling on mistakes; it’s about understanding your journey so far.
2. Reimagine:
If you could design the next six months, what would they look like? Maybe it’s about deepening relationships, learning something new, or finally tackling that project you keep putting off. Dream a little.
This is your chance to get creative. Forget about what you “should” do, and focus on what you want to do. What excites you? What would make you proud to look back on in December? Maybe you want to travel, start a new hobby, or simply spend more time with people you love. Maybe you want to take a risk, or finally give yourself permission to rest.
Let yourself imagine the possibilities, even if they feel out of reach. Sometimes, just naming your hopes and dreams is the first step toward making them real. Write them down, make a vision board, or talk them out loud. Give yourself permission to want more.
3. Reset your routines:
Are your daily habits supporting the life you want? If not, what’s one small thing you could change? Maybe it’s a morning walk, a weekly digital detox, or setting aside time to read (AM Edit can help with that!).
Routines are the scaffolding of our lives. They can lift us up or hold us back. Take a close look at your daily and weekly habits. Are they helping you move toward your goals, or are they keeping you stuck? You don’t need to overhaul your entire life—start small.
Maybe you want to wake up 15 minutes earlier to enjoy a quiet cup of coffee, or set aside Sunday evenings to plan your week. Maybe you want to limit your screen time, or commit to a regular workout. The key is to choose one or two changes that feel doable and meaningful. Small shifts, repeated over time, can lead to big results.
4. Reconnect:
Reach out to someone you’ve lost touch with. Join a community. Share your goals with a friend. We’re all more likely to stick with our intentions when we feel supported.
We’re not meant to do life alone. The second half of the year is a great time to strengthen your connections—with friends, family, colleagues, or even new communities. Think about someone you haven’t spoken to in a while. Send them a message, or invite them for coffee.
Consider joining a group or community that shares your interests, whether it’s online or in person. Share your goals and intentions with someone you trust. Accountability and encouragement can make all the difference when you’re trying to make a change. And don’t forget to celebrate your progress—together.
5. Recommit:
Pick one thing—just one—that you want to focus on for July. Write it down. Put it somewhere you’ll see it. Let it be your anchor for the next month.
It’s easy to get overwhelmed by big goals and long to-do lists. Instead, choose one priority for the next month. Maybe it’s reading more, moving your body every day, or making time for creativity. Write it down and keep it visible—on your fridge, your phone, or your desk.
Let this intention guide your choices and actions. When you feel distracted or discouraged, come back to your anchor. Progress isn’t always linear, but consistency adds up. At the end of July, check in with yourself. Celebrate what you accomplished, and set a new intention for August. One month at a time, you’ll build momentum.
The first half teaches us. The second half allows us to apply what we've learned.
